About Us

Poulsbo Animal Clinic is a well-established, full-service, small animal veterinary hospital providing comprehensive medical, surgical and dental care.

We provide a broad spectrum of diagnostic procedures through in-house testing and the use of external laboratories. We also work closely with local veterinary specialists when additional diagnostic procedures are required. The facility includes a well-stocked pharmacy, in-hospital surgery suite, in-house x-ray capabilities, a closely supervised hospitalization area, and indoor boarding kennels with outdoor walking areas.

At Poulsbo Animal Clinic we strive to offer not only sound advice, but also optimal veterinary care, thus allowing you the enjoyment of your companion for a maximum number of years. Our job is not only to treat your pet when he or she isn't feeling well, but also to help you learn how to keep your best friend happy and healthy.

History of Poulsbo Animal Clinic

Poulsbo Animal Clinic was founded by Dr. Jim King in 1952, and just like James Herriot in the popular books, he not only saw dogs and cats, but also did farm calls to see cows, pigs, horses and everything else. As the practice grew, Dr. King searched for an associate and hired Dr. Ronald Middaugh fresh out of Veterinary school. By 1978, Dr. King decided to retire and sold the practice to Dr. Middaugh. PAC continued to be run as a mixed-animal practice and by 1987, it outgrew its original location. A new building was erected on Lindvig Road in Poulsbo, and opened its doors March 1, 1988. Over the years, he phased out the large animal farm calls and continued to operate as a small-animal practice. Looking toward retirement, he sold the building and the practice to Drs. Dave Burgess and Carolyn Zimmers in February 2003. Drs. Burgess and Zimmers had started Animal Emergency and Trauma Center in the Poulsbo Village Shopping Center in 1993 and were looking for a new location. The building on Lindvig road filled their needs, so they moved their emergency practice to that location and moved Poulsbo Animal Clinic to their old location in Poulsbo Village in 2005. Poulsbo Animal Clinic was run by Drs. Burgess and Zimmers, with clients and patients being seen by associate veterinarians who worked for them, until March 2009 when it was purchased by Drs. Bethany and Craig Adams.
